During the operations, American naval and air forces destroyed a coastal radar, 7 cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) attack over the Red Sea. Centcom reported that there were no damages or injuries among American forces.
The military actions seek to degrade the ability of the Houthi, an Iran-backed group, to threaten regional partners and vessels in the area. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the response against the Houthi “It’s just beginning”following drone and missile attacks on Israeli territory.
Last week, an Israeli attack hit Sanaa international airport as the director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, was preparing to board. The incident prompted UN Secretary-General António Guterres to call on Israel and militants in Yemen to cease military actions.
The Houthi, who control parts of Yemen, began attacks against Israel following the Hamas offensive on October 7, 2023. In recent weeks, the group has intensified operations, firing missiles at Israeli cities and intercepting commercial and military vessels in the Red Sea.
