Screenwriter and director Jeff Baena, husband of actress Aubrey Plaza, has died at the age of 47. His body was found on the morning of Friday, January 3, at his home in Los Angeles. According to TMZ magazine, the cause of death was supposed to be suicide. Jeff was found by his assistant, the called ambulance pronounced the filmmaker dead. The police should have confirmed the suicide.
Jeff Baena was born and raised in Miami, then studied at a film school in New York. After his studies, he moved to Los Angeles, where he started his career. One of his first successes was working with director Robert Zemeckis, known for the Back to the Future series. Baena worked here as a production assistant and participated in several projects.
Another important stage in his career was the collaboration with director David O. Russell. They wrote four screenplays together, incl black comedy I Like Huckabees from 2004, in which Dustin Hoffman, Jude Law and Isabelle Huppert shone.
Jeff Baena made his directorial debut in 2014 with Life After Beth, starring Aubrey Plaza, who became his wife.
