The National Statistics Institute (INE) released this Monday the most recent data on unemployment in Portugal, which reached the highest value of the year, standing at 6.7%, with 363,800 people unemployed. Male unemployment increased by 1.9%, while female unemployment showed a slight decrease of 1.2%. In the case of young people, between the ages of 16 and 24, the unemployment rate fell by 0.9%, while the most significant growth occurred among adults aged 25 to 74.

According to the Employment and Professional Training Institute (IEFP), 87.6% of unemployed people do not have education beyond secondary education, with 41.9% having only completed basic education. Randstad highlights that the lack of qualifications continues to be a critical factor, limiting access to the job market, especially for the 8.7% who do not have any level of formal education. These individuals face greater difficulties, often being restricted to low-skilled jobs or without opportunities.

Regarding professions, unskilled workers represent the highest percentage of unemployed people, corresponding to 28.6% (or 89,057 people). Next are personal services, protection and security professionals and salespeople, who represent 20.3% of the total.

At a regional level, while the Center recorded a reduction in the unemployment rate, most other regions saw an increase. The Algarve stood out for the highest growth, with an increase of 55.7%, reflecting the end of the high season in the tourism sector and the consequent decrease in demand for labor.

Despite this increase in unemployment, INE also recorded an increase in the number of people employed, with 1,500 more jobs in November, reaching a historic total of 5,107,000 people employed in the country, with the least qualified people having the most difficulty. in finding employment.
