A 41-year-old man was recognized by witnesses and victims of the massacre; three members of the movement died and five were injured
The São Paulo Civil Police arrested a 41-year-old man suspected of leading the attack on the MST (Landless Rural Workers Movement) settlement in Tremembé. The incident, which occurred on Friday night (10), resulted in the death of three people and left five injured. The suspect was recognized by witnesses and victims of the attack. According to reports, a group of ten armed men invaded the settlement, shooting at residents.
The attack left a tragic result, with three fatal victims (Valdir do Nascimento, Gleison Barbosa and Denis Carvalho), in addition to five injured people, who suffered gunshots to different parts of the body. The seriousness of the situation led the Ministry of Justice and Public Security to request that the Federal Police also initiate investigations.
Gilmar Mauro, MST coordinator, denounced that the settlement has faced constant invasion attempts, driven by growing pressure from real estate expansion in the area. He revealed that he had already sought support from the Public Ministry and Justice, but without obtaining satisfactory results. The settlement, which is regularized by Incra, currently houses 52 families.
Given the seriousness of what happened, Lula’s government ordered the opening of an investigation by the Federal Police to investigate the details of the attack. The case was officially registered as murder, attempted murder and illegal possession of a weapon.
