Sad news: The legendary actress passed away († 95), who starred in popular films

British actress Joan Plowright died († 95), who was married to Lord Laurence Olivier. She became famous for her performances in the TV biopics Stalin and Enchanted April, for which she was nominated for an Oscar. She also starred in the films The Entertainer, 101 Dalmatians, Postrach Denis and in the documentary Nothing Like A Dame, informs

“She enjoyed a long and illustrious career in theatre, film and television spanning seven decades until blindness forced her to retire,” the family reports. “She has enjoyed the last 10 years in Sussex constant visits from friends and family, that were full of laughter and fond memories,” it continues. Joan died surrounded by her family.

Theaters in London’s West End are planning dim the lights for two minutes in honor of this lady. UK Theater and Society of London Theater co-head Hannah Essex described her as “an iconic and deeply respected figure in the theater world”.

Born in Scunthorpe, Joan Plowright taught at the local grammar school and won a scholarship to the Old Vic Theater School at the age of 17. She first appeared on stage in 1948 in the play If Four Walls Told and later became a member of the English Theater Company.
