Gastronomy and music liven up “Petiscos do Pescador” in Quarteira

Fisherman's Day celebrated in Quarteira with Snacks and Old Washed

Quarteira is preparing to host, between the 29th and 31st of May, another edition of “Petiscos do Pescador”, an initiative promoted by QUARPESCA – Association of Shipowners and Fishermen of Quarteira, in Jardim Filipe Jonas.

The event has the support of the Loulé City Council and the Quarteira Parish Council and aims to promote artisanal fishing, traditional gastronomy and the maritime identity of the Algarve fishing community.

The initiative also marks National Fisherman’s Day, bringing together fishermen, residents and visitors in an environment marked by conviviality, tradition and the promotion of fresh fish caught by small-scale Algarve fisheries.

During the three days, the event will feature snacks made with local fish, recreations linked to fishing activities, musical entertainment and awareness-raising moments dedicated to the fishing sector.

Gastronomy and maritime tradition highlighted

The program also includes the promotion of the “Cesta do Peixe” project, an initiative that seeks to encourage the consumption of national fish and bring consumers closer to sea professionals.

According to the organization, the event aims to reinforce “the appreciation of national fish” and highlight “the fundamental role of fishing communities in preserving coastal traditions and food sustainability”.

In addition to the gastronomic component, the place will feature music and entertainment throughout the three days.

Among the confirmed artists are Badoxa, Delfins, Augusto Canário, Banda Index, Doce Tentação and Tokisom.

Quarpesca warns of challenges facing small-scale fishing

The company considers that this initiative also represents an opportunity to raise awareness among the population of the difficulties faced by small-scale fishing professionals.

The association highlights that “this event also represents an opportunity to raise awareness in society about the challenges currently faced by small-scale fishing, advocating for greater appreciation of the sector and conditions that ensure the future of maritime communities”.

Entry to the event is free.
