Former first lady is in the USA representing Bolsonaro; deputies watched the ceremony on a hotel screen

Brazilian congressmen who went to the United States to participate in the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump this Monday (Jan. 20, 2025) were left outside the event’s place of honor, in and had to watch the ceremony remotely, that is, on TV.

Congressmen intended to attend the inauguration ceremony in front of the Capitol, but the low temperatures meant that the event was restricted to the interior of the US Congress. As a result, deputies watched the inauguration on a big screen in a hotel.

“As the event outside was cancelled, we will concentrate here at the hotel to watch it on the big screen, jtogether with other Brazilians and then we must go to the place where Trump will parade”, told the Poder360 o deputy Maurício Marcon (Podemos-RS), while Trump took office.

The meeting at the hotel had names such as (PL-DF), (PL-SP) and (PL-SC).

Michelle Bolsonaro is in the USA representing the former president (PL), who did not obtain judicial authorization to recover his passport – seized since February 2024 – in order to attend the ceremony. Michelle, however, did not participate in the deputies’ meeting at the hotel. She also had not posted photos of how she watched the ceremony until this text was published.

On Thursday (16 January), the former president that Michelle would have a “Very special treatment” due to the closeness he has with Trump.

DISTINGUISHED GUESTS

In the event’s prominent location were the CEOs of large technology companies, such as Elon Musk, from Tesla, SpaceX and X, who will even have a position in the government. In addition to him, Mark Zuckerberg (Meta) and Jeff Bezos (Amazon) were also present.

It is not common for heads of state to visit US inaugurations. Countries traditionally send ambassadors, as Brazil will do. Right-wing leaders, however, made a point of going to Washington, such as the president of Argentina, Javier Milei, and the prime minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, who were also in the Capitol Rotunda.
