Berlin, Germany (Folhapress) – Elon Musk’s nationalist speech in an AFD rally, Germany’s far -right party, was criticized by politicians and authorities from Europe and Israel. The billionaire declared on Saturday (25) that the Germans should leave aside the excess “guilt for the past”, of guilt “for the sins of their great -grandparents.”
“It is very important that people in Germany are proud to be German,” said the businessman, member and advisor of the Donald Trump government in the US. While speaking, tens of thousands of people took to the streets of large German cities, such as Colony and Berlin, to protest AFD and the rise of the far right in Germany and Europe. Musk, as well as his turn towards authoritarian leaders, was one of the protesters’ favorite targets.
The argument of guilt, typical in AFD militancy, gains extra resonance in Germany, which endlessly and institutionalized the historical balance of the Nazi regime in World War II. Donald Tusk, Prime Minister of Poland, said at the end of the X that the musk demonstration was “too familiar and threatening”, even more made on the eve of the 80th anniversary of Auschwitz’s release, celebrated on Monday (27) .
Olaf Scholz, the German Prime Minister, commented on his colleague’s post: “I can only agree.” Last week, in another event dedicated to the memory of what happened in the concentration camp, in which 1.1 million people, most Jews, was murdered, Scholz had already stated that the Holocaust is a “permanent responsibility” of his country. Each German has a duty to remember what happened in the country during the Adolf Hitler regime, “regardless of family history, religion or place of birth of parents and grandparents,” Scholz said in Berlin. “We should not nor accept any relativization.”
The German premie, which faces a hard election campaign and, apparently, lives its ultimate weeks in office, did not mention Musk, but did not need to. Days earlier, the billionaire, at an event in the US, made a gesture of thanks that he denies being a Nazi greeting, but was thus understood by much of the planet, notably in Germany.
“Remembering and recognizing the dark past of the country and its people must be the focus of the formation of German society,” said Danish Dayan, president of the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem. “Not doing this is an insult to the victims of national socialism and a clear danger to the democratic future of Germany.”
The German ambassador in Israel, Steffen Seibert, also used the businessman’s social network to criticize him. “Elon Musk doesn’t seem to know our country well.”
The billionaire, however, knows well the lexicon who pleases the extremists. On Saturday (27), as he did numerous times in Trump’s campaign in the US, Musk used the apocalyptic tone to ask Alice Weidel, the AFD candidate for the post of Premier. “The future of civilization may depend on this choice,” he said.
Tesla owner’s participation in the parliamentary campaign is contested by Weidel’s opponents in Germany and also authorities from various European countries. Emmanuel Macron, President of France, Keir Strmer, British Prime Minister, and Pedro Sánchez, the Spanish Premier, among others, have manifested themselves against what they qualify as attempts at musk interference in European politics.
About a year ago, Musk, accused of allowing extremist and Nazi content in the X, was invited to visit Auschwitz by the museum that preserves the field facilities in Poland. Still in a moderate and threatened phase of losing advertisers on the social network, the businessman participated in a brief ceremony and deposited a wreath on the so -called death wall.
