METHODOLOGY
O Poder360 considered the study released by the on the financial impact caused by the eventual increase in the number of deputies in the House and the per capita home income of 2024 released by the IBGE.
IBGE assimilates the results from the ratio between the income of a residence and its number of residents. The income considered includes all amounts earned by residents, including labor remuneration, pension and possible other sources. People who are part of the research are residents of permanent private homes. That is, it is not considered the income of residents of quilombos, indigenous villages and residents of areas not intended for houses. This is the IBGE data (PDF – 709kb).
The Millenium Institute, in turn, considers for its study the cost of maintaining a federal deputy and the financial impacts in case of home chairs to 527. Here is the study (PDF – 295kb).
Proposal of more deputies would cost R $ 46.2 million
By decision of the Supreme Court (STF), the House of Representatives will need to readjust its seats according to the 2022 census. States that increased the population should have greater representation in the legislature from 2027. There are two proposals under discussion. They are:
- Redistribute chairs by states: To avoid increasing the cost of the legislature, the possibility of some states losing representatives in the house and others win. Would lose deputies:
- Bahia: 2
- Paraíba: 2
- Piauí: 2
- Rio Grande do Sul: 2
- Alagoas: 1
- Pernambuco: 1
- Rio de Janeiro: 4
And would win deputies:
-
- Pará: 4
- Amazonas: 2
- Ceará: 1
- Goiás: 1
- Minas Gerais: 1
- Mato Grosso: 1
- Santa Catarina: 4
- Increase from 513 to 527 deputies: It is the idea defended by the president of the house, (Republicans-PB). If the proposal advances in the House, no state would lose its representatives.
The Millenium Institute, however, says that the financial impact of the chair readjustment from the increase in seats would raise the cost of the low house by 2.74%. That equals R $ 46.2 million.
