The financial transaction tax must work at least by the end of this year, as it is already part of the budget. However, it is right after some time to evaluate its contribution and consider its functioning for the future. The Minister of the Environment said this after Monday’s government meeting Tomáš Taraba (SNS nominee).
According to him, the chairman of the coalition CIS, Andrej Danko, was very correctly “raised” the issue of transaction tax. “It is a tax that has not yet existed in Slovakia, ie, we cannot evaluate its outcome today. My attitude is quite clear that the tax must be upheld by the end of this year, because it is part of the budget. I phoned with Andrej Danko. Taraba stated.
However, it will be necessary to assess whether the new tax has brought EUR 600 to 700 million to the budget expected, as estimated by the Ministry of Finance. “If this number is far from being fulfilled, of course, the question of re -evaluating the transaction tax will be completely legitimate in the context of the budget on the table. I do not see any problem in this,” completed the ministry.
Even the representatives of the coalition voice-SD were not enthusiastic about the party’s vice-chairman and the Minister of Education Tomáš Drucker on the new tax. However, in the preparation of consolidation for this year, the whole coalition has agreed, he recalled. “It certainly has its flies, certainly problems, but we have taken the decision and I think now we need to wait and fix all the problems,” he said after the government meeting.
At the same time, he thinks that it is not right to refer to reservations about the media coalition. “I think it should not be done like this. If we have any reservations about it, it is necessary to look at the data, you need to sit on it first and not in this way now do some presentation only through the media,” stressed Drucker. If Danko tried to cancel the transaction tax in parliament with the support of the opposition, as indicated over the weekend, according to Vice-Chairman of Voice-SD, it would certainly be a breach of the coalition agreement.
Taraba also announced that in the discussion on the state budget next year, the CIS wants to propose extraordinary taxation of armament companies. According to him, it is positive that this production is currently doing well in Slovakia, but above -average profits are not their merit, but they owe them to external factories. “As in the past, companies that had abnormal gains just because the price of electricity flew, today, today, have armory concerns,”evaluated.
