There is in Portugal a natural corner that continues to go unnoticed to the majority. Surrounded by dense vegetation and marked by the constant sound of the crystal clear water, this place is distinguished by the serenity that offers those who visit it.
It is the cascade of Poço da Drill, about ten meters high and formed by the Ribeira de Alvôco. Inserted in a set of five waterfalls along the same river line, it integrates a path that remains little known, according to the portal information. Only later, by continuing the route, its location is revealed: the village of Barriososa, parish of Vide, municipality of Seia, in the middle of Serra da Estrela.
Surrounding landscape and local biodiversity
Over the past few years, the waterfall has been attracting those who seek to escape the crowds. The crystal clear waters and the landscape frame, marked by green slopes and diverse fauna, make the place at a growing point of interest during the warmer months. According to the same portal, the site is inhabited by various species, including amphibians, birds and harmless water snakes, contributing to the natural richness of the area.
Fluvial Beach and Regional Gastronomy by Ribeira
Next to the waterfall is a river beach, accessible and conducive to baths in the highest heat. The site offers a resting zone by the water, with shaded areas that make the space inviting for families and walkers.
On the scarce meters, the Skills restaurant comes as a complement to the experience. The terrace, overlooking water, allows outdoor meals in a silent environment. The menu is based on typical dishes of the region, using local production ingredients.
We recommend:
Conditioned access outside the high season
Although access is signaled, visitors should be aware of the state of the road, which in some sections may show signs of degradation, especially outside the high season. As it indicates, periods of rain or defrost in winter can cause floods, making the place less safe.
For the most adventurous, it is possible to climb the Ribeira course in the opposite direction, where there are other small waterfalls and pure waters. The rail, although not officialized, is often traveled by those looking for less known paths and direct contact with surrounding nature.
A corner still out of conventional tourist itineraries
The Poço da Broca waterfall thus remains as a testimony of the natural diversity of Serra da Estrela. Between tranquility, landscape and authenticity, this is a destination that continues to be discovered by those who venture beyond conventional tourist itineraries.
