47% of Brazilians avoid getting information, says Reuters Institute

A survey in 48 countries shows that the global average is 42%; report cites anxiety and disengagement

Online media were the most cited as a source of news in Brazil. Include digital newspapers (such as Poder360), podcasts and AI. Next come social media, with 53%.

Brazil is the 2nd country in which artificial intelligence tools are most used to obtain information. Around 13% already use chatbots for this purpose, second only to South Korea, with 14%. The global average weekly usage rose from 7% to 10% in the last year.

The survey shows that 53% of Brazilians use platforms to find out. YouTube, which topped the list, lost ground to Instagram and WhatsApp.

A TV Globo leads weekly consumption of offline news in the country (41%), while g1 occupies 1st place in the online environment (35%). In terms of credibility, the CNN Brazil appears as the most trusted brand by the public (62%), followed closely by Record News e SBT News –both with 61%.

The digital journalism market faces a strong financial challenge. The proportion of Brazilians who pay for news online shrank to 15% – a drop of 5 pp compared to 2023.
