The gene edition of seeds is a priority for the Corteva Agricultural and Seed Chemicals company. “It’s the 21st century technology,” said Court’s vice president of public affairs, Shona Sabnis, in a panel of the event in Sao Paulo.
According to the executive, gene edition has been the company’s priority when it comes to research and development. The average daily investment in science and technology in the company is $ 4 million a day, counting weekends and holidays.
“As a technology company, we think of innovation. We believe in its power and producers to balance this equation,” said Sabnis. “The moment is interesting, we have geopolitical changes that impact our future and agriculture, the population is growing,” he said.
She understands that Brazil must channel all the technology developed today in agribusiness to further feed the growing global population. “We believe that the country can create a boost even greater than that of recent years, with producers and consumers.”
Examples such as increasing Cerrado’s cultivable lands or the so -called Indian Green Revolution – according to Sabnis, responsible for triple Indian agribusiness’s productive capacity with just 20% more land – some evoked by the expert to talk about the recent impact of innovation on agriculture.

This evolution, he argues, is transverse to producers of all sizes. “Corteva focuses on the farm of all kinds: more organized, traditional, large customers. But the impact that technology has on small producers is as inspiring as it is big.”
With tickets for the public sector, Sabnis believes that the government must work together with companies for the success of Agronomy. “I see as a wedding,” she says, adding that to invest, companies need fast, agile systems, and a technology that follows.
