England’s women’s clubs will allow alcohol on test – 24/07/2025 – Sport

Forbidden for decades in the men’s games in England to contain vandalism, alcohol will be allowed in the stands of seven women’s Superleague clubs during the 2025/26 season as a test.

The growing women’s football in England has been a much more familiar experience than men’s football, where profanity is common and violence has often manifested in recent decades, leading to the ban on alcohol in stadiums in 1985.

For next season, fans who are following Arsenal women’s soccer matches, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, London City Lionses, Manchester City and Manchester United will be able to consume alcohol, WSL (Women’s Super League) announced (24).

Women’s football is not covered by the 1985 legislation.

The test began last year in 19 matches of four second division clubs (WSL2), involving 51,000 fans. Two thirds of the fans were in favor, with 84% evaluating their security between nine and ten, said WSL.

“Players and referees did not notice change in the behavior of fans, while the average spending of fans in the stadiums regarding food and drink increased during the matches, along with a growth in the public,” said the League.

In addition to highlighting the most peaceful atmosphere in women’s games, the decision is a recognition of the success of beverage consumption in stadiums during the 2025 women’s euro.

WSL 2025/26 starts on September 6.
