Despair, fear and sappers surrounded by flames: How was the second night of the fire in Ponte da Barca?

This fire, which began on Saturday, has caused moments of great concern. On Sunday, a team of Sapadors was surrounded by the flames and a firefighter was injured in the face. The mayor strange the time the fire began – at night – and even complained about lack of air.

Because of the flames, this Sunday afternoon, only the firefighters passed at Nacional 203, the road that connects Ponte da Barca to the border with Spain. And for many residents of the place of stop, nearby, it was just to wait.

The situation seemed to be controlled, but on Sunday afternoon, the heat and the strong wind made the threatened villages and caused some damage.

“In the afternoon we had a situation of despair. The fire approached the dwellings. The air asses and on the ground were not enough and a team of sappers was still surrounded, but fortunately, we managed to release them,” said the mayor of Ponte da Barca, Augusto Marinho.

A firefighter got burns in the face, but has been discharged hospital.

However, in addition to criticism of the lack of means on the ground, the mayor of Ponte da Barca calls for an investigation to the causes of fire.
