Lithuanian Parliament approved stricter rules against drones: the army has new competences

On Tuesday, the Lithuanian Parliament approved an amendment to the law, which allows the army to intervene more effectively and faster against the drone disturbing the country’s airspace. According to the DPA report, TASR reports this.

It will be drones that pose a threat to Lithuania as a member of the European Union and NATO. The aim of the latest amendment to the law is to respond to the increasing number of airspace disturbances in the regionit is stated in the statement of the Lithuanian Parliament.

The amendment allows to shoot down drones that violate the valid rules in prohibited or inaccessible zones. So far, the army was allowed to interfere only against flying objects that have been used as a weaponor against those who have penetrated the forbidden zones and threatened state property. DPA recalls that from the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 into the Lithuanian airspace repeatedly penetrated drones.
