The internationals deployed in Gaza (Palestine) between August 2024 and February indicate, in a study published in the scientific journal that the damages and injuries that Israeli military invasion is causing in civilians are “unusually serious”, fundamental data to adapt the humanitarian response.
The information detailed by the health workers displaced to the military conflict of the Strip has been collected by an international team of the United Kingdom, the United States, Saudi and Gaza Arabia and published this last night by the magazine.
This is the first study that provides detailed data of the health situation in the front line of the conflict, so it offers essential information for immediate management and for long -term health planning in Gaza that, since October 2023, “supports high intensity bombings and land military incursions,” according to The BMJ.
Although publicly reported figures report “more than 65,000 killed Palestinians and more than 165,000 injured in the conflict,” other analysis suggests that the figures may be higher, the researchers remember. There are tens of thousands of people under the rubble, the Gazatí Ministry of Health repeats.
Given to the given
Based on surveys that responded 78 doctors and nurses and information on the registration books of hospitals between August 2024 and last February, the team documented those in civilians assisted in Gaza for explosions, firearms, infections and chronic diseases.
The participants, of 22 non -governmental organizations (NGOs) of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and the European Union, are specialists in trauma surgery, emergency medicine, pediatrics, or critical care and anesthesia.
The toilets were in Gaza between two and 12 weeks (which represents 322 weeks of clinical attention in the front line) and 65 % had worked in other conflicts.
The report reports 23,726 injuries related to traumas and 6,960 weapons. The most common lesions were burns (18 %), leg wounds (18 %) and arms (15 %). In addition, it notifies 742 obstetric cases that in 36 % ended the death of the mother, the fetus or both, as well as psychological traumas, mostly depression, acute stress and suicidal thoughts.
Most of the injuries had been caused by explosives (67 %), which mainly affected their heads (28 %), while firearms lesions pointed to the legs (23 %).
The most common general medical conditions reported and dehydration, sepsis and gastroenteritis. In addition, the toilets reported 4,188 people with chronic diseases that need treatment.
When their professional opinion was asked about what they had seen, doctors and nurses frequently described “unusually serious injuries”, such as multiple traumas, skull fractures and extensive lesions in internal organs, as well as serious burns, particularly in children.
Many respondents with experience in other conflict areas said that “the magnitude of the injuries treated in Gaza were greater than those they had seen in other war areas,” adds the study.
