The analysis occurs amid a crisis of alcohol adulteration with methanol, especially in São Paulo.
According to the State Government, in all, São Paulo accumulates 37 cases of the 43 of the country – between suspects and confirmed. One death has already been confirmed as being poisoning, and four are investigated.
Methanol is a liquid, flammable and colorless substance. It is widely used as a solvent in the manufacture of fuels, plastics, paints and medicines. It has great poisoning potential and, when consumed, can lead to death even in small doses.
Situation room
The Ministry of Health has created a situation room to monitor chemical poisoning cases after alcohol consumption in the country, as well as coordinating measures to be adopted.
In the room, a technical team will analyze the information to characterize the health situation of the methanol intoxicated population. The team will plan, organize, coordinate and control the measures to be adopted.
