Lula meets with Pope Leo 14 at the Vatican

This was the first meeting between the president and the pontiff since the religious assumed the papacy in May of this year; Janja was present

The president (PT) met this Monday (October 13, 2025) with Pope Leo 14 at the Vatican. The first lady, Janja Lula da Silva, was present.

This was the first meeting between Lula and Pope Leo 14 since the religious man assumed the papacy in May this year. The meeting represents the 3rd time that the Brazilian president has been received by a pontiff at the Vatican since the beginning of his first term in 2003. Previously, he was with Benedict in 2008 and with Francis in 2023.

LULA IN ITALY

Lula arrived in Rome (Italy) on Sunday (October 12). This Monday (Oct 13), he has an appointment with Pietro Labriola, global CEO of TIM, and Matteo del Fante, CEO of Poste Italiane.

The president also has the following appointments scheduled for this Monday (Oct 13):

  • meeting of the Council of Champions of the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty;
  • meeting with the director general of FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), Qu Dongyu;
  • Opening session of the World Food Forum;
  • visit to the offices of the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty support mechanism;
  • meeting with the chief advisor (head of government) of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus.

Lula is expected to embark for Brazil this Monday (Oct 13).
