Vegetable salad is a dish that can contain many different ingredients. Some people add apples to it, others avoid it. There are people who add canned corn to it, and there are those for whom it is a cardinal mistake. Everyone has slightly different taste preferences, so it’s best to follow them. However, there is one ingredient that should not be added to vegetable salad: onion. Even Magda Gessler, who is known for not avoiding spicy flavors, noticed this. However, it’s not about the taste. Onion in the salad will quickly make the dish unedible. The famous theory of “ingredients gnawing together” has the opposite effect in the case of this vegetable. It will spoil the whole dish.

Much has been written about the health properties of onions. According to Elżbieta Sawerska from the Interia Zdrowie website: “Onion included in the diet will inhibit the development of viruses, yeasts and other pathogenic organisms, the colonies of which often multiply in a poorly balanced diet.” All this thanks to the content of allicin, vitamin C and B vitamins.

So why shouldn’t you add onions to your salad? Despite its antibacterial properties, raw onion ferments quickly in a humid environment. In a salad, accompanied by boiled vegetables and mayonnaise, this process will progress even faster. The thing about fermentation is that it quickly involves all the other ingredients, as a result After just one day, the vegetable salad will be inedible. So if you can’t imagine this dish without onion, add it on the plate, preferably immediately before eating.

Everyone has their own secret to preparing this dish. We serve recipe for the most classic vegetable salad. You can of course improve it according to your preferences, but it is better not to add onions to it.

Ingredients:

  • 3 medium potatoes;
  • 5 marchewek;
  • 1 parsley root;
  • 1/2 taste;
  • 6 eggs;
  • 8 medium pickled cucumbers;
  • 1 apple;
  • 400 g canned peas;
  • 8 tablespoons of mayonnaise;
  • 3 tablespoons of thick natural yogurt;
  • 1.5 teaspoons of delicatessen mustard;
  • salt and pepper to taste.

Preparation method:

Hard boil the eggs and leave to cool. Boil the potatoes separately, and it is best to cook the remaining vegetables in the broth. When they are soft, take them out and leave to cool.

Now it’s time to cut: cut the vegetables into cubes, also the pickled cucumbers and peeled eggs. Cut the apple as finely as possible. Drain the canned peas in a strainer and add to the salad. Mix everything thoroughly, but gently, so as not to suffocate the ingredients.

Finally, add mayonnaise, yogurt and mustard and mix thoroughly. You can also combine these ingredients and add them to the vegetables only after mixing thoroughly. Finally, season everything with salt and pepper. Leave it in the fridge for a few hours to let the ingredients combine.
