Monja Coen, a reference in Zen Buddhism and an active voice when it comes to spirituality and self-knowledge, reflected on the emotional challenges of modern life in an interview with Metropolises. The nun highlighted the importance of recognizing one’s emotions and seeking support when necessary, especially when faced with problems such as anxiety, depression and feelings of emptiness.
“Realize what is happening, feel it in your body, in your breath. Talk to trustworthy people and overcome difficulties. You may need specialized treatment. Trustworthy people can help us understand the path better”, he stated.
For her, “cultivating calmness” is a daily practice, possible even in tense and competitive work environments. The starting point is simple: conscious breathing. The technique, according to the spiritual leader, is a powerful tool for regaining focus and balance, helping to transform stressful situations into opportunities for inner growth.
When asked about humanity’s greatest challenge, Monja Coen was direct:
“Awakening to the essential, to what is invisible to the eyes and sensitive to the spirit.”
For her, this awakening is individual and collective, an urgent need in times of excess information and lack of genuine connection. She will address these and other topics in the next one, which takes place in Brasília, on October 31st.
