Trump and Xi Jinping will discuss the conflict in Ukraine. The US President says he will appeal to the President of China to pressure Putin for a ceasefire.
Speaking to journalists during the flight to Malaysia, the US President stated that he will speak to Xi Jinping about the .
“We have a lot to talk to President Xi, he has a lot to talk to us, I think we’re going to have a good meeting,” Trump told reporters before leaving for Malaysia, the first stop on an Asian tour he will make.
The North American official said that issues related to agriculture are at the top of the agenda and that he will “mention Taiwan”, although he clarified that he does not yet plan to travel to the island.
Trump has been highlighting his desire for China to buy North American soybeans, after failing to do so in September, as had not happened in years.
Furthermore, the Asian country imposed additional tariffs on agricultural imports from the United States, in response to the economic measures advanced by the North American President.
The meeting between the two leaders, scheduled for next week in South Korea, will take place a few days before the new tariffs imposed by the United States on China come into force, as well as the customs control measures that Xi previously announced and which come into force on November 1st.
