General Inspectorate joins the Health Regulatory Authority which also announced this morning the opening of a process.
The General Inspectorate of Health Activities (IGAS) launched an investigation process this Friday to evaluate the assistance provided to a pregnant woman who died during the early hours of the morning at the Amadora-Sintra Local Health Unit.
“O The investigation process aims to assess the facts related to the assistance provided to a pregnant woman in the emergency service of the Local Health Unit of Amadora-Sintra and who ended up dying (…) hours after being sent home”, says IGAS in a statement.
Also the Health Regulatory Authority announced the opening of a process assessment with the same objective, so the two bodies will collaborate “in order to obtain all the necessary clarifications in a complementary way”.
After CNN Portugal reported the death of the pregnant woman, ULS Amadora-Sintra reported, in a statement, that the 38 weeks pregnant, from Guinea-Bissau, was admitted to the emergency department at around 1:50 am this Friday, transported by an INEM team, in situation of cardiorespiratory arrest.
On Wednesday, the woman had already been to the Amadora-Sintra hospital for a routine consultationduring which she was identified with mild hypertensionhaving been referred internally to the Obstetrics Emergency, where, after carrying out several complementary diagnostic tests, was discharged with indication for hospitalization at 39 weeks of pregnancy.
According to the institution, “an internal investigation was opened to investigate all the circumstances associated with what happened.”
The National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) said, however, that the Urgent Patient Guidance Center (CODU) received a called for help for a 36 year old pregnant woman, with a gestation of 38 weeks, who presented shortness of breath.
“After carrying out the clinical screening and providing the necessary advice, CODU called a Emergency Ambulance at 00:36”, says INEM in a statement.
According to INEM, the ambulance team informed CODU, at 00:54, that the victim was in cardiorespiratory arrest, and the Emergency and Resuscitation Medical Vehicle (VMER) was called from Fernando Fonseca Hospital (Amadora-Sintra).
“At 1:14 am, on site, the VMER medical team implemented the appropriate Advanced Life Support (ALS) measures. The user was then taken to the HFF, with medical monitoring from the VMER team, where she was admitted at 1:48 am”, states the institute.
