Castro’s approval breaks record after mega operation in Rio

Management is approved by 40% of the population, the highest rate since 2021; police action was the deadliest in history and left 121 people dead

A Datafolha survey released this Saturday (Nov 1, 2025) shows that the administration of the governor of Rio de Janeiro, (PL), reached the highest level of approval since 2022 after the mega-operation in the Penha and Alemão complexes. Here’s the of the research (PDF – 128 kB).

According to the survey, 40% of the population in the metropolitan region of Rio considers the government to be “excellent or good”. On the contrary, the number of people who disapprove of the management also reached the highest level since the beginning of the mandate. 34% of respondents classified it as “bad and very bad”. Another 23% considered the government to be regular.

In public security, Castro’s management is considered “excellent/good” by 37% of those interviewed. Those classified as “regular” total 25%. Another 37% say it is “terrible”.

The survey interviewed 626 people over the age of 16 by telephone on October 30th and 31st. The total margin of error is plus or minus 4 percentage points. The 95% confidence level.

LULA

Among those who voted for (PL) in the 2022 elections, approval is 67%. The margin of error for this record is plus or minus 6 percentage points.

Among voters of the president (PT), the percentage drops to 17%, with a margin of error of 7 percentage points. For the same group, the state government is considered bad or terrible by 61%. For those who voted for Bolsonaro, it is 12%.

“SUCCESS”

For 57% of those interviewed, the mega-operation was considered a success. Another 48% think the action was well executed. For 24% it was poorly executed and 21% defined it as regular.

For 50%, the majority of those killed were criminals. Another 31% said they thought they were all criminals. The operation was the deadliest in the country’s history and left 121 people dead. Among them, 4 police officers.
