US and China will open communication channels between the Armed Forces, says Hegseth

United States Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced the country and China have agreed to establish new communication channels between their Armed Forces.

The move aims to ensure a rapid de-escalation of any military incidents, a move that analysts say could represent the most significant dialogue between Washington and Beijing in years.

He added that both sides have already scheduled meetings to formalize these coordination efforts.

After Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping met in South Korea, Hegseth said he had a “positive” meeting with China’s Minister of National Defense, Admiral Dong Jun, in Malaysia.

“The admiral and I agree that peace, stability and good relations are the best path forward for our two great and powerful countries,” Hegseth wrote in an X post.

“The War Department will defend this vision: peace through strength, mutual respect and continued cooperation,” he added.
