Sad news from the Czech Republic: The actress and ex-wife of the legendary Forman (†86) has died!

Czech artist, theater and film actress and singer Věra Křesadlová died at the age of 81. She was the second wife of director Miloš Forman and a long-time member of the Semafor Theater, as also the mother of the well-known acting twins Petr and Matěj Forman. TASR informs about it based on the report of the iDNES.cz portal, to which her family confirmed it.

Křesadlová has been dedicated to singing and visual arts since she was young, among other things she sang in Kühn’s children’s choir. While studying at the Prague High School of Arts and Crafts in the early 1960s, she performed with the amateur big beat band Crystal.

It was at one of the performances that director Miloš Forman noticed her and cast her in his musical film Audition about a fictitious audition for the Semafor Theatre. For her performance in this film, she won a place in the real Semafor Theater, where she worked from 1963 to 1989 and became one of the most popular Czech actresses of the sixties.

Her face subsequently appeared in striking images of the so-called of the new wave, as they were Crime in a Girls’ School (1965) and Skrivánci na niti (1969) directed by Jiří Menzel, Intimate Lighting (1965) by Ivan Passer and Joke (1968) by Jaromil Jireš.

In the 1990s, she continued her career from the golden days of Czechoslovak cinema by appearing in minor roles in films such as Accumulator 1 (1994) by Jan Svěrák or Medvídek (2007), shot by Jan Hřebejk.

Věra Křesadlová was the wife of Miloš Forman in the years 1964 – 1999, together they had two children, Petr and Matěj. After his emigration, she raised her sons alone, the family met only four times from 1968 until the fall of communism. After her marriage to Forman, which was formally divorced in 1999, she was a couple with screenwriter Ján V. Kratochvíl.
