Austria will record unusually low asylum numbers in 2025

Vienna – The year 2025 has so far brought comparatively few new asylum seekers. There are “currently very low numbers of applications in Austria,” said Lukas Gahleitner-Gertz, spokesman for the asylum coordination, during a background discussion on Wednesday afternoon in Vienna. Nevertheless, the topic remains relevant, as asylum reform is imminent. In the most important countries of origin, Syria and Ukraine, the outlook is still difficult, said Gahleitner-Gertz.
