Mark Rutte and Friedrich Merz
Mark Rutte added: “We must be prepared for the scale of war that our grandparents and great-grandparents experienced.”
Speeches by leaders of large institutions are usually marked by thoughtfulness, tranquility, and formality. That’s not what happened this Thursday.
Mark Rutte, Secretary General of NATO, did not follow the usual diplomacy and issued a direct warning, almost a general warning, regarding Vladimir Putin’s next intentions.
“We are Russia’s next target. And we are already in danger”shot Rutte.
“The conflict is on our doorstep. Russia has returned war to Europe. And we have to be prepared for the scale of war that our grandparents and great-grandparents experienced”.
“I fear that too many are being silently complacent. Too Many don’t feel the urgency. And too many believe that we have time on our side – we don’t have time. The time to act is now”, continued the leader of the alliance.
Russia could be ready to use force against NATO “within a period of five years”, warned the secretary general.
Mark Rutte admits stopped trying to “guess what’s in Vladimir Putin’s head”President of Russia.
At the same conference in Berlin, the Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, addressed this “time of great geopolitical turbulence”, saying that Europeans “will not allow anything or anyone to divide them”.
A Europe “cannot pressure Zelenskyy into unacceptable concessions”Merz continued.
The leader of the German Government believes in Donald Trump’s US commitment to NATO.
Returning to Mark Rutte, new warning, aimed directly at the Germans: “If you love the German language and don’t want to speak Russian, this is crucial. Otherwise, this man (Putin) will not stay for Ukraine.”
