Goodbye stores? A Portuguese man placed 1,900 orders with Uber this year and spent an 'exorbitant amount'

In a year in which digital services reinforced their presence in the daily lives of the Portuguese, a piece of information highlighted by Uber helps to understand the scale of this transformation. In 2025, a user in Portugal placed more than 1,900 orders through Uber Eats, in extreme behavior that illustrates how delivery platforms have become part of the daily routine.

According to Jornal de Notícias, this volume corresponds to an average of around six orders per day over the course of an entire year, which translates into an annual expense of around 114,975 euros. According to Uber, a company specialized in mobility and deliveries through digital platforms, this user also recorded an average daily expense of around 315 euros, a value that clearly stands out in the annual balance sheet now released.

Data for 2025 points to consistent growth in the use of the company’s services, both in passenger transport and in the delivery of meals and other products. The platform highlights that the most frequent trips continue to be associated with daily routines, particularly between home and work.

Increasingly transversal mobility

Among the most common destinations are airports, restaurants, bars, shopping centers, tourist attractions and healthcare facilities. According to the same source, this diversity reflects an increasingly transversal use, which follows different times of the day and responds to the different needs of users.

In addition to the usual routes, there were also records of non-standard trips. One of the cases identified was a journey between Faro Airport and Matosinhos, on a journey of around 600 kilometers, crossing a large part of the mainland.

The month of July stood out as the period with the highest volume of trips made through Uber in Portugal. The company associates this peak with the typical summer seasonality, marked by holidays, greater mobility and a significant increase in tourist travel.

Meals, schedules and consumption habits

With regard to the meal delivery service, consumption habits maintained well-known trends. The hamburger was the most requested type of meal throughout the year, consolidating itself as the most frequent choice among Uber Eats users.

As for times, the period between 7 pm and 9 pm concentrated the largest number of orders. This pattern is repeated consistently throughout the year and confirms the use of the service as a regular alternative to preparing meals at home.

The busiest day of 2025 was November 29th, driven by the Black Week campaign. According to the company, that date registered an exceptional volume of orders, both in the restaurant segment and in other categories available on the platform.

From dinner to big-ticket purchases

In addition to meals, Uber Eats has established itself as a delivery channel for retail products. In 2025, the most sought after categories were grocery, convenience and pharmacy, signaling an expanded use to respond to immediate everyday needs.

High-value purchases also emerged in this segment. The largest order registered throughout the year was around 1400 euros and included an iPhone 15 and a PlayStation 5, delivered through the platform’s delivery service, as mentioned by .

In terms of mobility, Uber has been present in Portugal since July 2014 and is part of a growing sector. In April 2025, there were more than 37 thousand TVDE drivers in the country, according to data from the Mobility and Transport Institute, an indicator that, according to the same source, helps to frame the growing weight of these platforms in national daily life.
