Messages mix balance sheets for 2025 and projections for 2026; Bolsonaros talk about rescuing the country
Politicians used their social media profiles on Wednesday (Dec 31, 2025) and this Thursday (Jan 1, 2026) to publish year-end messages, with retrospectives on 2025, messages about expectations for 2026 and, in some cases, early references to the electoral scenario. Others posted about their New Year’s Eve.
The president (PT) made two publications on Wednesday (Dec 31, 2025) on Instagram. In the 1st, he released a video with the caption “today is a new day, a new time that begins for Brazil”. In the 2nd, it listed news from the last week of the year, highlighting positive government milestones, such as the lowest unemployment rate in the historical series.
First Lady Janja Lula da Silva published a video in which she stated that 2025 was an intense year and said to move on to 2026 “with renewed hope”. The couple, but neither of them had published New Year’s Eve records until this Thursday morning (January 1st).
The president of the Chamber of Deputies, (Republicanos-PB), released a video with different moments from 2025, welcomed 2026 and wrote that he was “with a reinvigorated heart, full of faith and hope”.
His predecessor in office, (PP-AL), also published a video looking back on the year and stated that 2025 was “a year of hard work, challenges and achievements that were only possible because we walked together”.
The president of the Senate, (União Brasil-AP), published photos of New Year’s Eve and released videos in partnership with comedian Arthur Cardoso.
The Minister of Ports and Airports, (Republicans), and the Minister of Transport, (MDB), published family photos during the end of year celebrations.
The chief minister of the Secretariat of Institutional Relations, (PT), released a photo alongside Lula wishing for a 2026 with renewed hope. She also shared a report from TV Globo retrospectively of the government’s actions, the The Economist why Brazil doesn’t re-elect the president and published a video alongside (PT-RJ), leader of the party in the Chamber, with mentions of the presidential contest.
to Planalto, the senator (PL-RJ) spent New Year’s Eve in the United States with his brother, the former deputy (PL-SP). He published a photo in which he shares his face with his father, the former president (PL), and wrote that he intends to “rescue Brazil”.
In a video, Flávio Bolsonaro said that 2025 was a difficult year and asked people not to lose faith. In another publication, he stated that he went to the United States because “family is unable to spend New Year’s Eve together” and denied that the trip was related to tourism.
Former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro published stories with a press release about the former president’s health, a video with a message in Libras and a brief New Year’s greeting signed by her and Bolsonaro.
The leader of the PL in the Chamber, , released a video of fireworks with the insertion of the phrase “Lula out”.
