Lead levels in Americans used to be up to 100 times higher than they are today

To this day, one can only speculate about the number of victims caused by gradual lead poisoning in the 20th century. But globally they are in the higher double-digit million range. A study in the renowned journal Lancet Public Health came to the conclusion seven years ago that lead – and especially leaded gasoline – could be responsible for more than 400,000 deaths per year in the USA alone due to cardiovascular disease alone.
