PT defends Master’s CPI in the Chamber – 02/02/2026 – Politics

The bench defends the establishment, in the Chamber, of the (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) into fraud. The request to open the collegiate was presented this Monday (2) and has the signature of 42 of the 67 members of the party, including its leader, deputy Lindbergh Farias (RJ).

The majority wing of the PT bench lists reasons to support the CPI. Firstly, PT members understand that there are more right-wing politicians involved in the fraud scheme, which could block opponents in the middle of an election year.

Another point that pleases PT members is the approach given by the author of the CPI request, Rodrigo Rollemberg (PSB-DF), to investigate (Banco de Brasília). There is an expectation of wear and tear for the administration of the governor of , ().

PT members also believe that the government cannot remain on the defensive in this debate. The fear is that the opposition will monopolize the issue. The commission’s enthusiasts advocate using it as a stage for the actions of the Federal Police and other investigative bodies.

Finally, this wing of the bench understands that opening a CPI in the Chamber could empty the opening of the Master’s CPMI (Mixed Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) in Congress, led by the opposition. The Bolsonarist articulation is commanded by deputy Carlos Jordy (PL-RJ).

HAS SheetPT leader in the Chamber, Lindbergh Farias, classified Jordy’s request as “out of place”. The deputy stated that the party will still study Master’s CPMI request articulated by deputies Fernanda Melchionna (PSol-RS) and Heloísa Helena (Rede-RJ).

The theory of part of the bench, however, is that the establishment of a CPI in the Chamber makes the CPMI unfeasible in . The calculation is that there would be no reason for the Legislature, in the middle of an election year, to engage in two committees on the same subject.

The PT bench will meet this Tuesday (3) to finalize an official position. If the favorable climate remains, the party will communicate its position to the president of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB) at the next leaders’ meeting.

Officially, Planalto has said that it will not act on the opening of CPIs. “The government feels comfortable with the PF’s investigation. We are not going to act to block the Master’s CPI. If the Chamber wants it to do so. It is the Parliamentarians’ task”, he told Sheet the government leader in the House, José Guimarães (PT-CE).

Unofficially, however, Planalto is concerned about the impact of a CPI on the functioning of the Legislature. One wing of the government defends total focus on voting on important projects, such as the MP (Provisional Measure) for Gás do Povo, the end of the 6 x 1 scale, the PEC (Proposed Amendment to the Constitution) for Public Security and zero fares for public transport.
