Liquid and water, much less water alone, cannot remove the accumulated dirt and sediment that comes from rotting stems.

Just pour a few tablespoons of raw rice into the vase you want to clean and pour warm (but not boiling) water over it. Then wait about 5 minutes. When this time expires, cover the outlet with your hand and start shaking the vase vigorously, also making circular movements.
The rice will absorb water and swell, but it will remain hard. It will easily remove sediment and scale from hard-to-reach corners. Finally, pour the rice and water out of the vase and rinse it with clean running water. This is a great way to thoroughly clean the inside of the vase.
