Alcácer do Sal accounts for losses after floods: library loses 30 years of assets

The Alentejo city faces serious consequences after floods that affected essential infrastructure. Despite the enormous losses, the local community mobilized with volunteers to begin cleaning and recovery work.

In Alcácer do Sal there are no longer isolated villages, . Cleaning work has begun and the population is reckoning with the enormous losses.

The municipal library of Alcácer do Sal suffered several losses . As the water recedes, the damage caused by the flood becomes visible.

Thirty years lost in a very short time, almost entirely. All that’s left to do now is rely on the help of volunteers and the library’s own employees to clean up.

Several restaurants on the Alcácer waterfront remain without electricity because the meters were under water for several hours. There is currently no prospect of when the situation will be resolved.

In the city’s pharmacies, the scenario is also devastating. After being completely flooded, both establishments are closed for now. The population now has to travel to the neighboring municipality of Grândola, 20 kilometers away, to obtain medicines.

There are great losses and a burden of work ahead to try to repair the damage, only alleviated by solidarity.

A great help that makes all the difference, essential for a population that is injured, but determined to recover.
