The 2026 edition of the XXI Conference will take place on February 13th, starting at 2:30 pm, in the Fissul auditorium, in Silves, bringing together farmers and specialists in the areas of water resources, environment and citrus farming.
In a statement, the Municipality of Silves states that the initiative is part of the 10th edition of the Silves Capital da Laranja Exhibition and intends to debate the new challenges and current themes that concern citrus growers and the sector.
The opening session will be attended by the president of Silves City Council, Luísa Conduto Luís, followed by the presentation of several central themes for the sector.
Experts debate water, agriculture and European financing
Among the themes under analysis are: “Water that Unites”; “Results of the Agro+Eficiente Project”; “Project “Fencho Irrigation Pipeline: Guarantee Water, Guarantee Future, by DGADR”;” and “Mercosur and the European Commission’s Multiannual Financial Framework 2028-2034”.
The interventions will be carried out by leading experts, including Eng. José Pimenta Machado, from the Portuguese Environment Agency, Prof. Amílcar Duarte, from the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Algarve, Eng. Adriano Pereira da Silva and Dr. Catarina Tacão, from COBA – Consultores de Engenharia e Ambiente, SA, and economist Miguel Viegas, from the University of Aveiro.
The second moment of the XXI Conference will be dedicated to a debate panel, moderated by Eng. Pedro Valadas Monteiro, which will feature the participation of institutional and academic representatives.
Among the speakers will be Eng. José Pimenta Machado, Prof. Amílcar Duarte, Eng. Ilídio Mestre, from the Association of Irrigators and Beneficiaries of Silves, Lagoa and Portimão, Prof. Marcos Pozzan and Prof. José Paulo Monteiro, from the Faculty of Science and Technology at UAlg.
The Municipality of Silves emphasizes that “highlighting the citrus industry that takes place in the municipality of Silves, its producers and the issues that matter for the improvement of this sector is the main objective of the XXI Conference and the “Silves Capital da Laranja” exhibition.”
