Faro exceeds 10 million passengers in 2025

National airports will handle 73.75 million passengers in 2025, which represents a growth of 4.7% compared to the previous year, according to preliminary data released today by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

The growth recorded last year was higher than the annual increase of 4.3% seen in 2024.

Regarding operational activity, 255,704 aircraft landed on national territory on commercial flights during the last year, translating into an increase of 4.0%, above the increase of 0.9% seen in 2024.

The movement of cargo and mail fell 0.5% compared to the previous year, against an increase of 14.2%, to 253,611 tons.

Lisbon maintains leadership, Faro grows 5.8%

Lisbon airport handled 49.0% of total passengers (36.1 million), an increase of 2.9% compared to 2024, while Porto airport handled 23.0% of passengers (6.3% more) and Porto airport handled 23.0% of passengers (6.3% more) and Porto Faro 10.4 million (share 14.1% and increase of 5.8%).

In 2025, the top five countries of origin and destination remained the same as in the previous year, with the United Kingdom standing out (increases of 2.4% in disembarked passengers and 2.2% in embarked passengers).

Despite a reduction of 2.3% in passengers disembarked and 1.9% in passengers embarked, France remained in second place

Spain, Germany and Italy maintained third, fourth and fifth position, respectively.

Lisbon airport concentrated 77.4% of the total cargo and mail handled in 2025, with 196,405 tons – 1.0% less compared to 2024 –, while the others increased by 1.2%, to 57,203 tons.

In analyzing the month of December alone, it was found that national airports handled 4.9 million passengers and 20.2 thousand tons of cargo and mail, corresponding to an increase of 4.6% in the volume of passengers and a drop of 8.8% in cargo moved, when compared to the same month in 2024.

“Throughout the year 2025, historic monthly highs were recorded in the number of passengers handled at national airports, with the exception of February”, highlighted the , pointing out that, in the last month of the year, there was an average daily arrival of around 82.1 thousand passengers, 5.2% more than in December 2024 (78 thousand).
