Don't throw away dry donuts. Make a fluffy cake out of them

Donuts, especially store-bought ones, don’t taste very good the next day. They are dry and to eat them we have to take a large sip of tea. There are also methods, e.g. using a microwave, oven or steam. However, if you know that you will not be able to swallow stale snacks, prepare English pudding from them.. The recipe for it is extremely simple.

In the 1940s, bread pudding, made from stale bread, was incredibly popular in England. The cake was soft, moist, cheap and filling.

Nowadays, any stale bread can be used for English pudding, not just bread. This type of baking will taste great if we make it from challah or dry donuts.

First, we follow the recipe, i.e. cut the donuts, soak them in a mixture like cutlets and bake them. The result is a cake with a consistency similar to that of a fluffy and moist sponge cake.

We recommend adding various additions to it, such as raisins, dried fruit, pieces of chocolate, nuts and even oatmeal. We can also make sprinkles out of them. It is worth adding vanilla extract or orange juice, depending on your preferences.

Ingredients:

  • 3 donuts;
  • 250 ml of milk;
  • 1 egg.

Preparation:

First, cut the dry donuts into strips and stuff them tightly in a baking tray lined with baking paper.. In a bowl, mix the milk with the egg and other selected additions.

Pour this mixture over the donuts, press down and wait for about 20 minutes. After this time, we can sprinkle the top of the cake with selected additions.

Bake the English pudding in an oven preheated to 180 degrees for 20-25 minutes. You can sprinkle it with powdered sugar, cover it with your favorite sauce or serve it with ice cream and whipped cream. If the dough is too thin, we recommend adding 2 tablespoons of pudding powder.
