The Italian Alpine Mountain Service (CNSAS) said that the victims are a woman and a man. Another critically injured person is a man who was airlifted to a hospital in Turin in critical condition. According to CNSAS, fifteen rescuers were involved in the search, along with search dogs and two helicopters. The rescuers then continued to search for other possible victims.
Italian media reported that the avalanche moved over the village of Courmayeur around 11:00 amwhere the group skied off the marked piste. Some reports state that up to six skiers remained under the snow.
Another avalanche also fell in the Trentino region in the north of Italy on Sunday. The mountain rescue service stated that the skiers managed to rescue a person covered in snow by their own efforts. Several fatal avalanche accidents have already occurred in the Alps this season.
