Championship accident leaves sailor with exposed fractures

This Sunday’s stage of the SailGP in Auckland, New Zealand, was marked by a serious accident. The French vessel passed over the host team’s boat, in a surprising collision. In total, two people were injured, one of them with open leg fractures.

The event occurred at the start of the third race of the day. When the boats met, the French became trapped on top of the New Zealanders, causing structural damage to both.

Louis Sinclair was rescued and, despite serious injuries to both legs, his health is stable. A French sailor also had to be treated by medical teams.

Despite this, the 2nd stage followed its schedule, with Australia taking first place, followed by Great Britain and Spain, respectively.

The Mubadala Brazil SailGP Team, a Brazilian team, ended its participation in 12th place overall.
