Mercadona surprises customers with another opening: discover the location of the new store

Mercadona opened its 70th store in Portugal this Tuesday, February 24, reinforcing the presence of the Spanish group. The new supermarket is located in Lisbon, at Quinta do Lambert, at Rua Agostinho Neto, no. 16, and represents another step in the expansion of the brand in the country, which has already been in operation for seven years and employs around 7,500 workers, according to the Notícias ao Minuto agency, which specializes in economics.

New store and job creation

According to Notícias ao Minuto, the opening of the store was marked with an institutional visit to the facilities, with the presence of Carlos Moedas, president of Lisbon City Council, Ricardo Mexia, president of the Lumiar Parish Council, and Juan Roig, president of Mercadona.

According to the company’s statement, the store creates 80 stable, quality jobs, all with permanent contracts from day one, the result of a total investment of more than nine million euros.

Of this amount, R$1.2 million was allocated to improvements in the public environment, in a total intervention area of ​​4,300 square meters.

Infrastructures and customer services

The new supermarket occupies a sales area of ​​1,900 square meters and brings together several sections, including Butchers, Fish, Delicatessen, Pastry and Bakery, Fruits and Vegetables, Perfumery, Home Care and Pets.

It also includes a wine cellar and a ready-to-eat area with self-service, offering prepared dishes to take away or eat on site, in an exclusive area.

The parking lot offers 114 spaces, including two for charging electric vehicles, underlining Mercadona’s commitment to sustainable mobility, according to the same source.

Lisbon as an investment destination

Carlos Moedas highlighted that Mercadona’s increased presence in the capital demonstrates the city’s potential for international investment and reinforces job creation.

The mayor added that the company plays an important role in urban rehabilitation, with improvements to the public space in the surrounding area, enhancing the neighborhood and the experience of those who visit the store. This is the Spanish group’s second unit in the city.

Juan Roig stated that store number 70 is a milestone in Mercadona’s trajectory in Portugal and that the company seeks to be increasingly integrated into the communities where it operates. The presence of the mayor and the board of directors reinforced the importance of the expansion project and the group’s commitment to maintaining high standards in infrastructure and customer service.

The opening of this store coincides with Mercadona’s sustained growth strategy in the country, which has been strengthening its supermarket network, adjusting to local needs and the Portuguese market.
