Four years of war: Only diplomacy can lead to peace, warns Minister Šutaj Eštok

The way to resolve the military conflict in Ukraine is through diplomatic negotiations. Only diplomacy can lead to lasting and sustainable peace. On the fourth anniversary of the outbreak of the war, this was announced on the social network by the Minister of the Interior and head of the Hlas-SD coalition Matúš Šutaj Eštok. He recalled the need to do everything in order to reach peace as soon as possible.

“We have said from the beginning that there is no military solution to this conflict. Diplomatic negotiations are the way forward. Only diplomacy can lead to lasting and sustainable peace. The price of peace can seem high. However, the cost of continuing the war is incalculable. Peace is in the interest of Ukraine, Europe and the Slovak Republic, and we must do everything to achieve it as soon as possible,” wrote the Minister of the Interior.

The anniversary of the beginning of the war is commemorated “with respect for the victims and with regret for the ongoing tragedy”. Šutaj Eštok recalled that the large-scale military conflict brought enormous loss of life, but also economic damage and fundamentally affected the security situation in Europe.

“Thousands of soldiers on both sides have lost their lives or been injured. And as in any war, civilians pay a high price.” he emphasized. According to him, four years of fighting show that the continuation of the war does not bring a solution.

The war in Ukraine began in full on February 24, 2022, when Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a “special military operation” against Ukraine. The war between Ukraine and Russia is the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II. In response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the European Union, NATO and the United States of America and other countries imposed extensive sanctions on Russia and began providing Kiev with military, financial and humanitarian aid. The United States has resumed negotiations for a 2025 ceasefire. However, they have not yet led to the cessation of fighting and attacks.
