Trump calls Venezuela a “friend and partner” when citing the country’s oil

United States President Donald Trump called Venezuela the country’s “new friend and partner” in his State of the Union address on Tuesday night (24).

Trump stated that the South American country has already sent more than 80 million barrels of oil to the USA.

“American oil production has increased by more than 600,000 barrels per day, and we have just received more than 80 million barrels of oil from our new friend and partner, Venezuela,” said the president.

“Natural gas production in the United States is at its highest level ever because I kept my promise to drill, drill, drill,” he added.

The US Armed Forces carried out an operation on January 3rd that culminated in the capture of Nicolás Maduro. Since then, interim president Delcy Rodríguez has adopted a tone of rapprochement with the North American government.
