In Ecuador, the parliament has passed a controversial mining law that also allows the mining of raw materials on the Galápagos Islands. In the National Assembly on Thursday, 77 deputies voted in favor of the bill from President Daniel Noboa’s right-wing government, while 70 deputies voted against it. Noboa’s government is hoping for investment from mining companies.
