Trump threatens Cuba with "maybe" carrying out a "friendly takeover"

The president of the United States launched a new threat to Cuba this Friday, after dropping that his nation may choose to “a friendly takeover” of the country. The American said these words at the White House, prior to his trip to Texas and in

There, the Republican has said that he is in “serious problems” and that the United States could do something “very positive” for Cubans who are in exile, an argument similar to the one he used with Venezuela.

“The Cuban Government is talking to us. They are in big trouble, they have no money, they have nothing, but they are talking to us now. Maybe we will have a friendly takeover of Cuba. We could very well end up having a friendly takeover of Cuba,” he told the Cuban press at the White House after being asked about the next steps that the US will take on the Island.

The Republican president’s statements come just a couple of days after the Island announced the death of four crew members and at least six injured of a US vessel after a shootout with Cuban security forces near the coast, near the province of Villa Clara.

They also come after the Trump Administration decided to impose an oil siege on the country and demanded that its leaders reach an agreement. Although it is true that later, last Wednesday, he relaxed the imposed blockade and authorized the re-export of Venezuelan crude oil to Latin American territory (with some restrictions, of course).

This Thursday, according to the newspaper Heraldthe team of the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, met with former Cuban dictator Raúl Castro to talk about a possible reduction of sanctions on the island. However, it is not known which points they discussed exactly.
