Opposition has precedents to extend INSS CPMI – 02/27/2026 – Panel

Opposition deputies and senators are working together, behind the scenes, not to depend on the president of the , (-AP), or put him in a corner to extend the work of the CPMI of the .

One strategy is to use the precedents that exist in the House. The opposition has already mapped out at least four CPMIs that were extended during the Senate session, not the .

The strategy is designed because The argument is that a meeting of the National Congress would be necessary. CPMI can operate until March 28th.

The opposition responds that just one session of the Senate or Chamber is sufficient, and cites several precedents. , extended during the session of , in 2020, that of Petrobras, in 2014, extended for 30 days and that of Violence against Women, extended twice, in 2013.

The MST’s CPMI, in 2010, was also extended in a simpler way: by decision of the Chamber’s Constitution and Justice Committee.

The main argument is that the National Congress’ regulations are silent in relation to the extension of CPIs. The Senate does not require a Congress session to be held.

Another strategy already considered by the opposition is to use article 76 of the regulations, which allows temporary commissions, such as the CPIs, to be extended by the collegiate itself.

There is already a request filed by deputy Coronel Chrisóstomo (PL-RO) asking for the work to be extended. In this case, it depends on a majority in the CPMI.

Parliamentarians say the objective is to promote a tactical node in Davi Alcolumbre.
