Pombal factory creates its own energy solution and supplies 156 homes after storm Kristin

In Pombal, a ceramics raw materials factory developed an autonomous solution with a turbine, managing not only to replace its production but also to supply 156 homes.

One month after the passage of Storm Kristin and despite EDP’s guarantee, there are residents and businesses who complain about still not having electricity. In Leiria there will be around 200 customers. In Pombal, a ceramics raw materials factory found a way to produce electricity with the help of a turbine.

A month ago, cyclonic winds also destroyed this ceramics raw materials factory, in Meirinhas, in the municipality of Pombal.

In addition to the destroyed facade, the building was practically left open and production stopped due to a lack of energy, but not for long.

For three days, they carried out several tests to be able to produce energy autonomously from a turbine.

On the third day, they managed to replace part of the production and, with the connections they made to the poles, they managed to supply electricity to another 156 homes.

At the same time that the president of EDP guaranteed that energy had already been restored to 100% in Leiria, there were those who showed evidence to the contrary.

This is the case of this workshop, in Leiria. There is a lack of answers. The poster serves to draw the attention of technicians who are still on the field.

That’s 60 euros of fuel per day to power a generator, almost every day, for the last month.

Not far away, this feed mill has had power for a week, but damage from Storm Kristin is still visible.

The losses have not yet all been accounted for, but they could exceed one million euros. After work on the metal structures and roof, in a month’s time, the hope is to be working at between 70% and 80% of capacity.
