Oil and gas production falls 0.6% in January

Volume stands at 5.17 million boe/pre-salt accounts for 79.9% of the total; production grows 14% in 12 months, says ANP

The (National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency) reported this Monday (2.Mar.2026) that Brazil produced 5.168 million boe/d (barrels of oil equivalent per day) of oil and natural gas in January 2026.

In comparison with December, there was a decrease of 1.3%. In relation to January 2025, volume grew 15.8%, when production was 4.460 million boe/d.

Oil and gas

Oil production totaled 3.953 million bbl/d (barrels per day). The number represents a drop of 1.5% compared to December (4.015 million bbl/d) and an increase of 14.6% in the annual comparison (3.449 million bbl/d).

Natural gas production reached 193.16 million m³/d (cubic meters per day). There was a decrease of 0.6% compared to December (194.3 million m³/d) and an increase of 20.2% compared to January 2025 (160.7 million m³/d).

Pre-salt concentrates almost 80%

The pre-salt accounted for 4.129 million boe/d, equivalent to 79.9% of national production. In relation to December, there was a reduction of 1.8%. Compared to January 2025, growth was 19%.

3.167 million bbl/d of oil and 152.98 million m³/d of natural gas were produced from 177 wells in the pre-salt layer.

The Búzios Field, in the Santos Basin, was the largest oil producer, with 875.68 thousand bbl/d.

The Tupi Field led the production of natural gas, with 43.19 million m³/d.

Among the units, the FPSO Almirante Tamandaré, in Búzios, recorded the highest oil production (241,608 bbl/d). In gas, the highlight was the FPSO Marechal Duque de Caxias, in Campo de Mero, with 12.51 million m³/d.

Gas burning grows

The use of natural gas was 97.1% in January. 61.92 million m³/d were made available to the market, while 5.68 million m³/d were burned. Burning rose 16.9% compared to December and 27% in the annual comparison.

According to the ANP, the increase is related to the commissioning of the P-78 platform, in the Búzios field. The operation began on December 31, 2025.

Maritime production

Maritime fields accounted for 97.9% of the oil and 87% of natural gas produced in the month. The fields operated by Petrobras, alone or in a consortium, accounted for 89.4% of the total. Production originated from 6,080 wells, 563 offshore and 5,517 onshore.
