In connection with the acquisition of nuclear weapons, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed the ongoing negotiations with France on a system of advanced nuclear deterrence as part of strengthening European security.
More than half of Poles were in favor of the country acquiring nuclear weapons. This follows from a survey published on Tuesday by Radio ZET, reports the Warsaw news agency TASR. Almost 51 percent of respondents were in favor of such a step, 39 percent are against it, and more than 10 percent of respondents have no opinion. The support is the same between women and men.

The highest support for the acquisition of nuclear weapons was recorded among the voters of the right. He is supported by 79 percent of the voters of the opposition Confederation and 65 percent of the voters of the Law and Justice (PiS) party.
Tusk: Warsaw is negotiating nuclear weapons with Paris and European allies
Among the voters of the New Left coalition, 54 percent of respondents support this step, in the case of the Third Way (Poland 2050 and PSL) it is 40 percent. The proposal has the lowest support among the voters of Tusk’s Civic Coalition, where 35 percent of respondents expressed approval.
The survey was conducted by the IBRiS agency on February 27 and 28, 2026, on a representative sample of 1,073 people.

Cenkiewicz does not believe that France will be willing to share with Poland
The head of the Polish Presidential Office of National Security (BBN), Slawomir Cenckiewicz, said in an interview with Radio ZET on Tuesday that he does not believe in France’s willingness to share its nuclear potential. He was reacting to Paris’s initiative in the field of nuclear deterrence, reports the Warsaw correspondent TASR.
“I do not believe in France sharing its nuclear potential even with such a great ally as the Republic of Poland,” he said. According to him, full control over nuclear weapons is key to France’s understanding of sovereignty, and Paris wants to maintain 100 percent control over the arsenal. “France is not building its Nuclear Sharing,” he added. Within the framework of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the concept of “Nuclear Sharing” allows some members without nuclear weapons of their own to participate in the planning, transportation and eventual deployment of US nuclear weapons.
