The leader of the Chamber of Deputies, Isnaldo Bulhões (AL), classified as “untimely and innocuous” this Tuesday (3) by 16 party directorates in favor of the party’s independence in the presidential elections – one that wants to nominate the president’s vice president (PT).
“It is a totally inappropriate discussion, because it is outside the electoral calendar. We are now discussing party windows and affiliations”, said the emedebista. “It’s an innocuous discussion. The sectors of the party that are discussing this now may regret it. This is a matter for the convention,” he said.
Bulhões is an ally of President Lula, from the group that formally supported the PT candidate in 2022, even though the party has launched the candidacy of Simone Tebet (MDB). He said that the PT did not offer the vice position, which belongs to Geraldo Alckmin (PSB). “And, if I had offered, I would have been offering at the wrong time, because the moment is now a discussion in the party window,” he said.
The party window is the period in which federal and state deputies can change parties without losing their mandate. It also represents the final period for affiliations for those who want to be candidates in October – the deadline to be affiliated is April 4th.
The MDB leader’s speech in the Chamber is a reaction to 16 party directorates in favor of neutrality in the elections – and, therefore, against a . The group argues that the party represents the “diversity of a continental and federative Brazil, where each state has its own social and political reality.”
“Since 1966, MDB’s DNA has been a firm commitment to democracy, both internally and externally. This commitment implies respect for the plurality of opinions of our regional directorates, our leaders and, primarily, our voters in every corner of the country”, says the text.
The group asks that the party not form an alliance with a candidate for president, leaving open the possibility for each directory to form alliances with whoever finds it most convenient for the local reality.
