The president of the , , announced Thursday via social media that he is replacing Homeland Security Secretary Christy Noem and intends to nominate Oklahoma Republican Sen. Markwayne Mullin for the position.

The announcement came just two days after a highly charged congressional hearing in which Noem drew fierce criticism from both Republican and Democratic lawmakers, with the administration’s immigration policy and .
New role for Noem
At the same time, Trump stated that he intends to place Noem in a new role as “Special Envoy for The Shield of the Americas” (Special Envoy for The Shield of the Americas).
This is a new security initiative that, according to him, will focus on cooperation and security in the Western Hemisphere.
The first resignation from the cabinet
Christie Noem thus becomes the first minister to leave the cabinet during Trump’s second presidential term.
